The East coast is known worldwide for its fabulous surfing, and for the ultimate Barbados surfing holiday Bathsheba is the place to go. Home of the famous 'Soup Bowl', it’s a hot spot for local and foreign surfers alike. With prime conditions year-round, surfing is one of our most popular sports on the island and the east coast is one of the most popular places to surf. The east coast is sprinkled with some breathtaking rock formations on the land and natural rock pools for swimming, which are the only things that stand between Africa and the island. Cattlewash, another popular east coast location, is home to many holiday homes for locals and foreigners alike. These houses tend to be rustic in nature and a true break from 'town life' and for a perfect Caribbean sunrise, the east coast is a must.
With only a 15-minute car journey to the International Airport there are many flights daily from all over the UK, including British Airways and Virgin from Gatwick, BMI from Manchester, as well as now many charter flight companies. Barbados' Grantley Adams International Airport is on the island's southern coast, 16 km (10 miles) southeast of Bridgetown. Over the next few years, the airport is undergoing massive expansion. It will be the main gateway to the south and southeastern Caribbean, especially for flights from Europe and from North American. In season, a steel band and complimentary rum punch greet arriving passengers; a modest airport departure tax is the island's kiss good-bye. Barbados was the only vacation destination in this Hemisphere with a scheduled Concorde service. One of the retired British Airways Concorde now resides at the airport.
Barbados is the leading island destination in the Southern Caribbean for British, North American and European tourists. It is known for its well-trained, industrious people, its stable government, a wide range of accommodations and attractions and its fine coral-sand beaches.
Barbados is a mature Caribbean tourism destination. Large-scale tourism development dates back to the late 50s and early 60s but colonial ties to Britain had made Barbados a popular destination for wealthy British nationals for many years before World War II.
The tourism product in Barbados is diverse and includes varied accommodation - hotel rooms, villas and guest houses - scores of restaurants and other food and beverage facilities, nature attractions including caves and marine parks, historic sites, festivals, golf courses and a range of other activities.
By the end of 2003, the island had hosted over 1 million tourists, of whom 531, 211 were stay-over visitors and 559, 000 were cruise ship visitors. Accommodation for tourists is targeted to increase from approximately 7,250 rooms in 2003 to approximately 9,500 rooms by 2010.
Over 70% of the country's foreign exchange is earned by the tourism sector. It was anticipated that by the end of 2003 Tourism's contribution to real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would have been in the region of 11.8%.
Over 12,000 people are directly employed by tourism currently (8.5% of total employment). This number is expected to increase to approximately 10.6% of total jobs by 2012.
None of the villas will be more than 500 metres from the sea.
Completion due 2008/2009 onwards

Barbados benefits from warm, sunny days throughout the year. The daytime temperatures range from 75 degrees to 85 degrees Fahrenheit or 23 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius. North east trade winds blow steadily allowing Barbados to remain warm and sunny without being too hot. While it does tend to rain more during the summer periods, most consider the showers refreshing as they help to cool down the day. Tropical storms do pass the island during the rainy season but this is purely part of the weather cycle and is not a deterrent to visitors, particularly those travelling during school holidays. The dry season lasts from December until June. Skies are generally pristine and cloud free; however, the island does receive the occasional shower.
